Speaking at Yale Ventures: Navigating a Career and Life You Never Planned
I recently had the privilege of speaking at Yale Ventures during a Lunch & Learn session with students and members of the innovation community, both in person and online.
The presentation, The Long Way Here: Navigating a Career and Life You Never Planned, explored the idea that meaningful careers and lives are rarely built by following a perfectly designed roadmap. Instead, they are shaped by curiosity, courage, life's twists and turns, and the intentional choices we make along the way.
Using my personal Career Journey Map as a guide, I shared stories from my own journey—from scientist to marketer, technology executive, entrepreneur, leadership coach, and author—and introduced three simple frameworks that have guided many of the most important decisions in my life: Values, Leadership, and Reflection.
One message seemed to resonate throughout our conversation:
A meaningful career and life are built not by having the perfect plan, but by making intentional choices that align with your values.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was continuing the conversation after the session, meeting students and attendees individually, and signing copies of The Long Way Here.
My sincere thanks to Michelle Ferraiolo and the Yale Ventures team for their warm hospitality and thoughtful invitation. It was an inspiring experience, and I look forward to future opportunities to continue these conversations about leadership, purpose, and building meaningful careers and lives.
